The Information Commissioner’s Office has launched a dedicated advice line for small businesses and charities to help them prepare for the General Data Protection Regulation, which comes into force on 25 May 2018.
The advice line can be reached by calling 0303 123 1113 and selecting option 4.
As well as helping small organisations prepare for the new law, it is able to deal with other related inquiries, including existing data protection laws, freedom of information requests and electronic marketing queries.
Other data protection resources
The new advice line compliments the resources on the Information Commissioner’s Office’s website for organisations employing fewer than 250 people.
In addition to the new phone service, the Information Commissioner’s Office has also announced plans to simplify its ‘12 steps to take now’ graphic.
It is also revising its SME toolkit, which will allow businesses themselves to identify gaps in their own preparation for the new law.
By the end of the year, the Information Commissioner’s Office will publish a Guide to the GDPR, expanding the content of the current overview to make it a comprehensive guide along the same lines as the current Guide to Data Protection.
